Christmas and Life in Alaska Scrapbook, 1935
File — Box: 4, Volume: 1
Scope and Contents
The first portion of this scrapbook is a newspaper column the Deseret News did in 1935. Renowned explorer and his wife, Captain and Mrs Kleinschmidt were sent to the North Pole to find Santa Claus. The newspaper printed the letters and pictures they received from the Kleinschmidts. There are articles about meeting Eskimos, using reindeer to help them travel, surviving wolf attacks, and meeting Santa Claus. Santa then shows them his one-thousand room workshop, introduces them to Jack Frost, protects them from the evil North Wind named Layluk, and then escorts them home. When the expedition returned, they invited all the boys and girls of Salt Lake to a motion picture screening of the film taken of Santa Claus at Capitol Theater. The rest of the scrapbook contains articles about various Christmas stories and traditions all over the world. There are also articles about life in Alaska.
