Scope and Contents

From the Collection: The Robert H. Hinkley photograph collection consists of 5 boxes containing black-and-white and color photograph prints and negatives depicting the career of Robert H. Hinckley. The collection is arranged by subject and chronologically. Box 1 Folders 1-5 was donated by Hinckley and documents some of the early life of Robert Hinckley but mostly covers the public aspect of his career, particularly in politics. Also in the collection are images of former United States Presidents John F. Kennedy and Harry S. Truman. An album in the collection documents a two day golf vacation in Ohio at the "Club Frolic."

Box 1 Folders 6-16 and Boxes 2-5 were donated by the Hinckley Institute of Politics. Box 1 Folders 6-16 and Box 2 consist of images depicting the Hinckley Institute of Politics between 1967 and 2005, particularly the students who received internships through the institute. Box 4 contains portraits of Hinckley and photographs of his business and political career; many are press photographs taken by varying newspapers and news agencies. This box includes photographs depicting people such as Carl Albert, Alger B. Chapman, Marriner Eccles, James Farley, E. J. “Jake” Garn, Leonard Hall, Mark Hatfield, Hubert Humphrey, John F. Kennedy, Mike Mansfield, George McGovern, Ralph Nader, Paul A. Porter, Brent Scowcroft, Robert Strauss, George Romney, Frank Moss, Ralph Nader, J. Edgar Hoover, Benjamin Spock, Leslie L. Biffle, Felton Johnston, Ted Wilson and many others. Included is a photograph of Lyndon B. Johnson taking the oath of Presidency aboard Air Force One with Jackie Kennedy shortly after JFK was assassinated.

Box 5 is oversize and contains portraits of Hinckley, his family, and others. The images of the entire collection are mostly black and white with the exception of a few small color images.
