The archives document the evolution of the sport and industry, including the history of ski competition on local, national, and international levels. In addition to scholarly research of skiing as a sport, these materials are valuable resources for research into skiing-related industries such as public relations, transportation, resorts and their amenities, equipment, and clothing. Established in 1989, this self-funded program was created to preserve a comprehensive history of skiing in Utah and the Intermountain region.

Albert S. Hansen papers

Abstract The Albert S. Hansen papers (1962-1971) contain information, correspondence, membership material, and rosters of the Ski Utah Associates, as well as news articles, newsletters, and information about the Olympic Ski Club. Albert S. Hansen worked with the Ski Utah Association, and was a lifelong supporter of University of Utah athletics, and served as the Executive Director of the Intermountain Ski Association.

Abstract The Lex Hemphill papers (1924-2004) contain documents and research relating to his twenty-five-year career as a sports columnist with the Salt Lake Tribune. His papers consist of documents, research files, interview notes, and legal research pertaining to the controversial issues in Utah, the Olympics, professional and collegiate sports, and environmental and wilderness issues.

Lacey Heward began skiing at age 15 when she got bored sitting in the lodge watching her family have fun skiing and snowboarding and decided to learn to ski. In 1999 she entered the National Ability Center's program in Park City to learn about mono-ski racing.

Abstract The Drew Hicken papers (1990-1993) contain color photocopies of a calendar, various magazine excerpts, and a flyer. Most of the collection contains color images of Hicken snowboarding that appeared in various snowboarder magazines. Hicken was a competitive snowboarder for the "Salty 8," a team sponsored by Salty Peaks Snowboard Shop.
