Bess Foster Smith papers
Collection
Identifier: MS 0168
Scope and Contents
The Bess Foster Smith papers consist of a five-page biography of George Washington Hill written by Smith, a resident of Weiser, Idaho. The relationship between the author and subject is not known. A brief note on sources at the end of the manuscript indicates the sketch was based on a manuscript by Theresa Snow Hill, a descendent of Hill, and on interviews with Hill's grand-niece and nephew. Hill (1822-1900) was a missionary to the Shoshone, Nez Perce, and Blackfoot tribes.
