Scope and Contents

The William Simpson Gould papers (1897-1906) contains certificates, his diaries (1898-1900), letters, a travel log, patriarchal blessings (1898), an address book, financial account records (1898-1906), and picture books. The documents were gathered during the period when Gould was serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Scotland. Also contained in the collection are photocopies of the diaries made by the Manuscripts Division staff.

Biographical Note

William Simpson Gould, at 32 years of age, left his wife and children to serve a mission. He was called to Great Britain but served most of his mission in Glasgow, Scotland. He served from October 1898 to July 1900. The son of Robert and Anne Simpson Gould, he was born on November 18, 1866, and raised in Eden, Utah.
