The Ossian F. Taylor papers (1851 and 1909) contain an overland diary, a transcript of the diary, and a photocopy of the Taylor family genealogy. The diary depicts his struggles while moving west and records his family history.

The original diary has been removed and placed in Reserve. This box contains a typescript version for access purposes. Access to the original must be given by the Manuscripts Curator and by appointment. An archivist must remain with the item if being used.

Biographical Note

Ossian Farewell Taylor (1832-1909) was born in Mexico, Maine. When he was eighteen years old, he visited his sister Fannie in Iowa and decided to cross the plains with her and her family to Utah where they would join the other members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). Taylor was not a member of the LDS Church.
