John H. Benson diary [typescript]
The John H. Benson diary [typescript] (1849) details his journey from St. Joseph, Missouri, to Sacramento, California.
Todd I. Berens papers
The Todd I. Berens papers (1849-1970) consist of materials resulting from Berens' research of historical trails of early Western settlers, with emphasis on Jedediah Smith and Charles Fremont, as well as the Gold Rush of 1849. Included are letters from Dale Morgan, a biography of Arthur Shearer, and an excerpt from the Hannibal Journal. Todd Berens was a high school history teacher who specialized in historical research.

The Lucia Eugenia Lamb Everett diary (1862) describes her overland journey to Nevada in a horse-drawn wagon. She includes descriptions of buffalo skulls, encounters with Indians, and the crossing of rivers and creeks.
Emma Josephine Young Gilliland letter [typescript]
The Emma Josephine Young Gilliland letter [typescript] was sent to her mother in 1850 July 23. This letter was written during a stop in Salt Lake City describing a trip from Indiana. Tells of the trip through Emigration Canyon, general trail conditions, food and conditions in Salt Lake City; tells of plan to move on to California in the spring. Typescript incomplete; last page of original letter missing.

The Alonzo Huckins diary and genealogy consist of a journal kept by Huckins (b. 1837), primarily of his travels from Fort Leavenworth and Fort Riley to Camp Floyd and Fort Kearney in the 1860s, along with some genealogical materials regarding the Huckins family.

Ossian F. Taylor papers
The Ossian F. Taylor papers (1851 and 1909) contain an overland diary, a transcript of the diary, and a photocopy of the Taylor family genealogy. Taylor was born in Maine. Although not a member of the LDS Church, he traveled to Utah with members of his family who were members.

The Third Wagon Company roster (1860) is a typescript roster of the LDS Church emigrant company of 1860, captained by Jesse Murphy. The company started 19 June 1860 and arrived in Salt Lake City, Utah, on 30 August 1860.

The Charles I. Wheat papers (1937-1958) contain thirteen letters from Dale Morgan to Carl Wheat concerning research in Western history. Also included are transcripts of articles from various Illinois and Iowa newspapers and a proposal for a book by Wheat titled, First Visible Footsteps of the White Man in Death Valley.
