Scope and Contents

The Shirley Ririe papers (1946-2010) consist mainly of programs, announcements, and news clippings pertaining to Ririe and the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company. Also included are correspondence, biographical information, and miscellaneous personal material. The correspondence is mostly personal in nature, including many greeting cards. The programs and announcements relate mainly to Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, but also pertain to other institutions and dance events. The news clippings are originals to be photocopied at a later date.

Biographical Sketch

Shirley Ririe was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on 20 February 1929. She attended the University of Utah, then furthered her studies in dance in New York. She married Rhees Ririe in 1951 and soon after accepted a position to teach at Brigham Young University. Shirley later accepted a position at the University of Utah and met Joan Woodbury. They started a small company, called Choreodancers, which later became the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company.
