In 1848, while living in Glasgow, Scotland, Budge converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served a mission in England for nine years before immigrating to Utah. Budge entered three polygamous marriages: on November 24, 1856, he married Julia Stratford in England; on September 9, 1861, he married Eliza Prichard in Farmingtonm, Utah Territory; and on April 5, 1868, Budge married Ann Hyer in Providence, Utah Territory. Additionally, he served as editor of the Southern Idaho Independent, a weekly paper published at Paris during the 1880s. After returning to Utah, Budge served as President of the Logan Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Temple, a position that he held for the last thirteen years of his life.
