Ginn was a member of a wagon road expedition that traveled west from Independence, Missouri, as well as a captain in the United States Army. Some of the key events in the book, from 1857 to 1861, include the investigation of the Mountain Meadows Massacre; encounters with Brigham Young, Porter Rockwell and John D. Lee; and the Utah War.

William Glasmann papers
The William Glasmann papers (1916, 1984-1988) contain correspondence and research for a manuscript written about Glasmann, as well as a copy of the manuscript. William Glasmann was an editor, orator, and politician. He moved to Salt Lake City in 1880 and established a buffalo ranch on the shore of the Great Salt Lake. He left the ranch for journalism in 1892, and later served as national organizer for the Silver party and vice president of the National Republican League.

The Glen Canyon Action Network was founded in 2000, its name was changed to Living Waters in 2001. Living Waters became part of the Waterkeeper Alliance in 2002, and added Colorado Riverkeeper to its name.

The Glen Canyon archaeological survey photograph collection contains images of excavations, artifacts, and cliff dwellings taken during an archaeological survey of Glen Canyon prior to its flooding. The survey was headed by Jesse Jennings of the University of Utah Department of Anthropology. Included are photographs of some of the members of the survey party.

William S. Godbe statement [photocopy]
The William S. Godbe statement (1984) is a photocopy of the handwritten version in which Godbe describes his excommunication by the LDS Church, subsequent mining and smelting ventures in Utah Territory, his disagreements with Brigham Young, and his abandonment of polygamy. Godbe was a prominent Utah businessman. He was a member of a group of intellectual LDS dissenters that became known as the Godbeites and was excommunicated by the LDS Church in 1869.

Joshua Percy Goddard (1879-1966) attended the University of Utah from 1907 to 1909 and graduated as valedictorian. This collection contains black-and-white photograph prints and negatives depicting the University of Utah campus and student activities from 1907 to 1909.
