Abstract

The Dorothy Shepherd Van Stipriaan papers (1876-1984) consist of personal and family materials. Included are handbills, artwork, announcements, flyers, poetry, religious materials, and Dorothy's unpublished master's thesis. Dorothy Van Stipriaan (1909-1976) was a member of Salt Lake City's prominent Shepherd family. She was appointed head of the library's Fine Arts Department in 1966.

Abstract The Emmeline B. Wells diaries (1844-1920) consist of Wells' personal journals that contain daily accounts of her life and activities. Wells (1828-1921) was an early Mormon pioneer who left her home in Massachusetts for Nauvoo, Illinois in 1844. In 1846 she moved on to Salt Lake City, Utah, where she was very involved in the LDS Church and various social organizations, including the National Women's Suffrage Association and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Brigham Young papers

Abstract

The Brigham Young papers (1857, 1876-1877, 1908) consist of documents relating to the religious and civic activities of Brigham Young. Included are correspondence, diaries (1837-1857), proclamations, three holograph pages from his will, and microfilm of letter books and official papers from his time as governor of Utah Territory (1849-1857). Brigham Young was the second leader of the LDS Church and was responsible for the movement of the Mormons to the Salt Lake Valley.
