Abstract
The Emma Josephine Young Gilliland letter [typescript] was sent to her mother in 1850 July 23. This letter was written during a stop in Salt Lake City describing a trip from Indiana. Tells of the trip through Emigration Canyon, general trail conditions, food and conditions in Salt Lake City; tells of plan to move on to California in the spring. Typescript incomplete; last page of original letter missing.

This is not a journal account, but rather Holt's recollection of life events written in 1881 when he was 77 years of age. The Elizabeth Dennistoun Wood Kane diary consists of a photocopy from microfilm of the original. The diary documents Elizabeth Kane's travels from Salt Lake City to St. George, Utah and back. Material in the diary was later used by Kane in the writing of her book entitled, Twelve Mormon homes visited in succession on a journey through Utah to Arizona.
