The Owl Creek mining claim collection (1880s) contains hand-copied duplicates of letters between J. H. White and Felix Chapellet. The letters concern the operation and progress of the Owl Creek claim, tunnels built, lumber, and a discussion on selling the claim. The Paine brothers mining collection (circa 1850) consists of a sketch map of the mining claims of the Paine Brothers in Nevada County, California, and a photocopy of a handwritten narrative, "In The Days Of Old And The Days Of Gold." The narrative, possibly written by Milton Paine, is a humorous short story set in the hydraulic gold mining days of California and contains a description of gold rush mining camp life.
