The archives document the evolution of the sport and industry, including the history of ski competition on local, national, and international levels. In addition to scholarly research of skiing as a sport, these materials are valuable resources for research into skiing-related industries such as public relations, transportation, resorts and their amenities, equipment, and clothing. Established in 1989, this self-funded program was created to preserve a comprehensive history of skiing in Utah and the Intermountain region.

Abstract The Barbara Stewart Anderson papers (1901-2001) focus extensively on images, documents and correspondence from her family, particularly from her father, Ray Stewart, the founder of Timp Haven Ski Resort. Includes twelve valuable land patents deeding land to the North Fork Investment Company, as well as historic newspaper clippings from the Provo Herald, and hand-written documentation of water levels in Provo Canyon.

Axel J. Andresen scrapbooks

Abstract The Axel J. Andresen scrapbooks (1930-1980) were compiled by Andresen documenting his involvement in competitive ski jumping. A native of Norway, Andresen came to Utah in 1912. He held most major jump titles between 1918 and 1927. He was a founding member of the Norwegian-American Athletic Club, which later became the Utah Ski Club. Andresen served as vice president of that organization in the 1930s.
