Scope and Contents
The Utah Opera Company records (1975-2002) is comprised of the company's administrative and financial records, as well as materials relating to its Opera in the Schools program. Included are correspondence, financial statements, checks and check stubs, meeting minutes, receipts, invoices, general ledger and transaction registers, donation cards, teacher and student evaluations, programs, and notes. The first box in the collection, dating from 1977 to 1986, contains correspondence between Peterson and others associated with the Utah Opera Company. Administrative files are located in boxes 2-6 and include information on the company's history, its boards and committees, company policies, opera productions, performers, and institutions affiliated with the Utah Opera Company. These files date from 1978 to 1989. Financial records, dating from 1975-1988, are located in boxes 7-57 and include donation records, receipts, invoices, statements, checks and check stubs, bank deposit slips, tax documents, and general ledger and transaction registers. Information on company accounts, performance finances, personnel, ticket sales, and fund raising is also included in these boxes. Boxes 58-72 house documents relating to the company's Opera in the Schools program. The bulk of these materials consists of thank-you letters and student and teacher evaluations resulting from performances by the Utah Opera Company at various elementary and junior high schools. Also included is background information on the school program, performance reports, Utah school directories, performer contracts, news clippings, narration typescripts and notes to accompany performances, and materials pertaining to other opera companies, such as the Metropolitan Opera Guild. Report cards containing donation information are located in boxes 73-76 and date from the 1980s. Utah Opera Company programs, dating from 1987 to 1990, as well as a 1976 booklet of French opera programs, are housed in box 77.

Organizational History
The Utah Opera Company was formed in 1976 by Glade Peterson (died 1990), a native Utahn renowned in Europe for his operatic talent.
