Abstract

Willis Carl Nugent and his wife Pearl Graul Nugent worked as Protestant missionaries in Japan beginning in the 1920s. In 1942, they moved to Delta, Utah, to minister at the Central Utah Relocation Center, or Topaz. This collection contians photographs, postcards, and cards documenting the Nugents' work at Topaz and serving as missionaries in Japan dating from 1927 to 1951.

George Numbers papers

Abstract

The George Numbers papers (1848-1952) are a collection of letters and essays written mostly by George Numbers, and his daughter, Emily Numbers. The letters were written by George Numbers in 1848, when he was in California during the Gold Rush. There is also an autobiography written by Emily Numbers, who was a school teacher in Indiana and Texas from 1882 to 1932.

The O. J. Hollister essay is titled, "History of Independence Hall: A Landmark in the Development of Utah." Independence Hall was located on the south side of Third South just west of East Temple (today’s Main Street). It was an adobe building 33 feet wide and 57 feet long, built by the First Congregational Church in 1865.

The Occidental Hotel ledger (1848) is from the Occidental Hotel and store located in Sonoma Valley, California. Information found in the ledger includes birth dates, death dates, and marriage records of early pioneers in the Sonoma Valley. Drafts of letters written by hotel employees and records of individual store accounts, including purchase lists and prices of goods as they were in 1848, are also in the ledger.
