Hope was elected county treasurer in 1934 as a Democrat on the "coat-tails" of Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Ira Owen Horsfall (1885-1971) was a faculty member at LDS College, then at Cornell University. He became president of Snow College in 1933. In 1937 he was appointed director of the Extension Division at the University of Utah.
