The Service Star Legion was a patriotic society, which had its beginnings in Maryland during World War I (WWI). It was organized in Utah, and called that Salt Lake County Chapter, also known as the War Mothers.

Frank's son James Shikashio (1920-2010) served in the United States military during World War II. The Frank Shikashio digital photograph collection contains portraits of Frank, Miyoshi, and James Shikashio dating from approximately 1940 to 1970.
