Scope and Contents
The Linda Sillitoe papers (1940-1996) contain handwritten and typed manuscripts of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction; and research files consisting of news clippings, correspondence, journal articles, promotional and informational materials, and other documents. The collection contains background and research material related to Mary L. Bradford's biography, Lowell L. Bennion,for which Sillitoe served as editor. Also included are research files compiled by Sillitoe during her research and writing of Friendly Fire: The ACLU in Utah (1996). These files focus on individuals associated with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Utah and offer news clippings, photocopied correspondence from the 1960s and 1970s, original correspondence from the 1990s, and interview notes and other documents regarding individuals involved in ACLU litigation and/or administration. These individuals include national and local ACLU administrators and attorneys, ACLU board members, and Utah state government officials. Also included are documents containing information relating to the administrative structure and activities of the ACLU of Utah, as well as its general history. The collection also contains manuscripts of books, short stories, and poetry written by Sillitoe. Sillitoe also collected various handwritten and typed poems written by Mormon women. Linda Sillitoe is a professional author, editor, and writing instructor, who was nominated three times for the Pulitzer Prize for her writing on life in Salt Lake County while she worked at the Deseret News. She is a graduate of the University of Utah.

Linda Sillitoe (1948-2010) was a professional author, editor, and writing instructor, who was nominated three times for the Pulitzer Prize for her writing on life in Salt Lake County while she worked at the Deseret News. She was a graduate of the University of Utah.

Included are drafts and correspondence for a biography of Lowell L. Bennion by Mary Bradford for which Linda Sillitoe served as editor. Sillitoe is a writer and poet.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
This collection was donated by Linda Sillitoe in March 1992 (box 1); December 1995 (boxes 2-4); July 1996 (box 5); and November 1996 (boxes 6-17). Sillitoe donated the contents of box 18 in June 2003. Box 19 was donated by Marion Smith in October 2004.
